Are You Ready for a Summer of Fishing?

Anglers across the state are gearing up for a summer of fishing. If you're planning on spending some time on Lake Winnie this summer, there are a few things you can do to prepare.

1. Get your fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license online or at a number of local retailers, including Fred's Bait and Tackle and Winnie Trading Post, both proud members of the Lake Winnie Resort Association!

2. Stock up on gear. This includes everything from rods and reels to bait and lures. Fred's Bait and Tackle has a wide variety of fishing gear to choose from.

3. Decide where you want to fish. Lake Winnie offers a variety of fishing options, including fishing from a boat, dock, or shore. If you're not sure where to start, talk to one of the many friendly fishing guides at the Lake Winnie Resort Association. They can help you find the perfect spot to cast your line. Royal Guide Service and Zup’s Guide Service are great options whether your new to the area, or if you want to brush up on your knowledge!

4. Book your stay at a Lake Winnie resort. The Lake Winnie Resort Association is home to a number of fantastic resorts, all of which offer stunning views of the lake. 5. Learn about the different types of fish in Lake Winnie. Lake Winnie is home to a variety of fish, including walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, and panfish. Do some research on the different types of fish in the lake and the best ways to catch them.

6. Brush up on your fishing skills. If you're new to fishing, there are a number of resources available to help you learn the basics. You can also take a fishing class or hire a guide.

7. Get your boat ready. If you plan on fishing from a boat, make sure it's in good condition and that you have all the necessary safety equipment. You can rent a boat at one of the many marinas on Lake Winnie. 9. Don't forget the sunscreen and bug spray. The sun can be strong on the water, so it's important to protect your skin. You should also bring bug spray to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

10. Most importantly, have fun! Fishing is a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. So get out there and enjoy a summer of fishing on Lake Winnie!

Fishing from a Boat vs. Fishing from a Dock or Shore

There are a few things to consider when deciding whether to fish from a boat or from a dock or shore.

Accessibility. If you're not sure where to start, fishing from a dock or shore is a great option. You don't need a boat or any special equipment.
Variety. Fishing from a boat gives you access to more water and a greater variety of fish.
Flexibility. Fishing from a boat allows you to move around and fish in different spots.
Cost. Fishing from a dock or shore is typically less expensive than fishing from a boat.

April 21st Fishing Report

Ice-out on Lake Winnie is approaching quickly. Warmer temperatures this week will help break up the main ice pack, and with a little help from the wind, we should see significant progress. Expect some big changes by next weekend.

Perch are firing on Lake Winnie. Being mobile is key to staying on active schools. The sit and wait game hasn’t been all that beneficial. Big perch on Winnie require a mobile approach.
