May 21st Fishing Report

Anglers are experiencing excellent success employing jig and minnow techniques. If you're headed to Lake Winnie, ensure you have an ample supply of ⅛-ounce and ¼-ounce jigs. Hot colors such as parrot, firetiger, glo watermelon, and parakeet have been particularly effective. Pair these with a Spottail Shiner, fathead, or rainbow chub for optimal results. When the wind picks up, fish are being caught in shallow waters as shallow as 4-5 feet. Conversely, when the wind subsides, targeting the 10-13 foot flats has proven fruitful.

Key locations yielding good numbers of fish include the Third River area, the north shore's secondary rock piles, the flats off Mallard and Raven’s Point, and Sugar Point. Anglers are also finding success south of Sugar Point, extending into the River Bar area.

For those seeking species other than walleye, the Tamarack Bay area is worth exploring. Large numbers of Northern Pike, along with some decent perch, are being caught in the Three Sisters area extending back into Plughat Bay. Pike provide exciting action, especially for younger anglers onboard.
